  • Being an active citizen is truly empowering satisfaction. For an architect that's the most cherishable volunteering experience. A while ago we partnered up with a Culture Center to work on a project of mapping the Tresnjevka neighborhood. The project leader is Vanja who is an amazing self-motivated and well-known city explorer. Luckily for hundreds of citizens of Zagreb, he unselfishly started sharing his discoveries, photographs, and forgotten secrets from the old Zagreb as well as the new city's spirit, paradoxes, and local stories.

We helped him shape its idea of mapping Tresnjevka which is the most densely populated Zagreb neighborhood. Vanja's themed local tours are the core of the project. What an amazing time and educational experience those tours provided. Among hundreds of enthusiastic locals, many curious architects, designers, city guides, schools, businesses, and local organizations joined soon after they were launched.

For the branding part of the project, we provided a very simple visual identity as well as tour maps, posters, and other print and marketing materials. Tresnjevka has a specific name meaning and it's often called just "Tresnja" which means "a cherry". It was given back in 1766 when the cherry plantation spread out over its area. Regardless of not having a single cherry tree in the whole neighborhood these days, the cherry remained its unattachable symbol.
